Blind Trust
Recently, we brought our kids with us on a work trip to Orlando, Florida! It was such a fun experience as we attended the National Youth Convention and Fine Arts Festival for the Assemblies of God, cheering on many of our friends from Mississippi as they presented the gifts God has given them on a national stage. Since we had a free day before the event began, we took the opportunity to visit Universal Studios, too!
As we packed for the trip, our kids began asking questions.
“Who is going to be there?”
“What time are we leaving?”
“How long is the car ride?”
“What is the hotel like?”
“Is Fine Arts at Universal?”
“How are we going to get to Universal from our hotel?”
“Is everyone from camp going to be there?”
“What time is it now?”
“What time will we get there?”
So. Many. Questions!
Finally, I stopped and said, “PLEASE… no more questions. I need you to just trust me that we’re going to get there and have a great time. Just take a deep breath and enjoy the ride, even if you don’t understand all the details.”
Matt laughed in the background and said, “That’ll preach!”
And oh, how it does. Just like earthly parents, our Father doesn’t give us all the answers—where we’re going, what it will look like when we arrive, or who will walk with us along the way. He’s not human, so it’s not that He grows annoyed by our questions. We may not know why He doesn’t reveal everything in advance, but we can rest assured that He wants us to relax and trust Him, knowing we’re in good hands on the journey.
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
Psalm 119:105
“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
Proverbs 16:9
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Proverbs 3:5–6
As we follow Jesus, He doesn’t show us every single step in advance. Just as a lamp lights the path only a few feet ahead, His Word illuminates our way as we continue moving forward. We may create our own plans, but He is the master storyteller, weaving things together far better than we ever could. When we trust Him, He shows us the way. He’s a good Father with good plans, even through life’s unexpected twists and turns.
I never answered all of my kids’ questions, but they did, in fact, have a wonderful time in Orlando. In the same way, even when our questions feel unanswered, we can enjoy the journey—confident that God is leading us into His good plans.
