Missing Pieces

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12 NLT

Puzzles were a big part of my childhood. Not necessarily because I was a fan of putting them together; however, my mom was a master at putting the pieces of a puzzle together.

It didn’t matter how complex the picture was—she always had a strategy for what she was going to do, and it never failed. She would start with the outer rim and then work her way in. She would sort each piece by color, design, and other key details depending on the puzzle. Slowly but surely, she would finish the puzzle, and it would become the masterpiece she saw on the box.

It didn’t matter how large or complex the puzzle was—she always found a way to solve it entirely and bring it to life.

There were several occasions, though, when the puzzle wasn’t entirely complete. Maybe a piece was misplaced or never made it into the box. But those puzzles stood out in a different way. A completed puzzle was defined by the image it bore. An incomplete puzzle was defined by the piece that was missing.

So it is in our lives and in the Body of Christ.

The Apostle Paul was writing to the church in Corinth, explaining some incredible truths about the Holy Spirit, the Gifts of the Spirit, and the role of each individual person. He compared us to parts of a body. There are many unique parts that, when brought together, make one functioning, healthy body.

It reminds me of a puzzle!

If we aren’t careful, we can let life, work, frustrations, and maybe even a little pain keep us from “completing” the puzzle. Your piece is just as valuable and serves just as great a purpose as everyone else’s! We all have a part to play in what Jesus is trying to do in our world today.

“All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 NLT

Don’t let life cause you to become a missing piece. Get connected! Plug in! Serve your church, community, family, and friends. Your part to play is too significant to leave out.

Do you feel like something is missing in your life? Let’s go to Jesus and remind our hearts that He is the answer to every missing piece.

Take some time this week to read over 1 Corinthians 12 and ask Jesus what part He wants you to play.

Let’s pray!

Jesus, thank You for those reading this today. My prayer is that You would speak to their heart, mind, and soul about who You are calling them to be. They have such a significant role in Your Kingdom! Not because You need us—you’ve just designed us to play a part in the building of Your Kingdom.

I pray for any missing pieces in our hearts today. Lord, You are the answer. You always have been. You always will be. We trust You with everything today, Jesus.

Amen!
